Product specifications verified: July 24, 2026

To pull a cargo or touring trailer behind a compatible Harley-Davidson trike, you need three matching components: a model-specific hitch, a compatible trailer-lighting harness, and a pull-behind cargo trailer. Our Harley Trike Trailer Hitch provides the mechanical connection, our Plug & Play Wiring Harness supplies the trailer-lighting circuits, and the Legend Motorcycle Trailer we offer provides 22 cubic feet of cargo storage. Before ordering, confirm your exact Harley model and year, the correct hitch and harness options, and the trailer’s coupler and electrical connector.

A Complete Pull-Behind Setup Needs Three Compatible Components

A pull-behind setup for a Harley trike starts with three products that must work together:

  • Harley Trike Trailer Hitch — Provides the frame-mounted hitch and removable ball mount.
  • Plug & Play Wiring Harness — Connects the trike’s electrical system to a compatible four-wire trailer-lighting system.
  • Legend Motorcycle Trailer — Provides 22 cubic feet of space for luggage, tools, camping equipment, and other touring cargo.

The hitch ball must match the trailer coupler, and the trailer’s electrical connector must match the wiring-harness output.

These products serve a different purpose from a trailer designed to carry the entire motorcycle. This guide is specifically about a cargo or touring trailer pulled behind the trike.

Our Harley Trike Hitch Provides the Mechanical Connection

Our Harley Trike Trailer Hitch is designed for the specific models and years listed on its product page.

Current hitch-only fitment includes:

  • 2011–2025 Harley-Davidson Tri Glide FLHTCUTG
  • 2014–2025 Harley-Davidson Freewheeler FLRT
  • 2023–2025 Harley-Davidson Road Glide 3 FLTRT

The hitch does not fit 2009 or 2010 Tri Glide models.

The hitch is built from heavy-duty structural steel and has a black powder-coated finish. It includes a removable polished-chrome ball mount and a 1⅞-inch hitch ball. It can be installed on the listed models with or without Harley-Davidson’s optional factory rear bumper.

Published hitch specifications include:

  • Maximum hitch towing rating: 600 lbs
  • Maximum hitch tongue-weight rating: 75 lbs
  • Tongue height: 11 inches
  • Hitch weight: 15 lbs
  • Hitch dimensions: 29 inches long × 16 inches wide

These figures are ratings for the hitch assembly. They do not establish a Harley-Davidson-approved towing capacity for the motorcycle or override the guidance in the motorcycle owner’s manual.

The Correct Wiring Harness Depends on Your Model and Year

The wiring harness must match the exact Harley model, model year, and factory connector configuration. One harness should not be assumed to fit every Harley trike.

Our current product listing includes separate harness options for:

  • 2014–2025 Freewheeler - SKU: 10-2599
  • 2023–2025 Road Glide 3 - SKU: 10-2599
  • 2014–2025 Tri Glide - SKU: 10-2600
  • Newer applications listed separately in the current product selector

For 2026 and newer applications, select the option shown for your exact motorcycle on the current product page or contact our team to confirm fitment before ordering. For that reason, customers with a newer model should select the option shown for their exact motorcycle on the current product page or contact us before ordering.

The hitch page also states that the wiring harnesses included with its 2014–2025 hitch-and-harness combinations are not compatible with CVO Trike models. Newer models use a separately listed harness option and should be verified through the current harness selector.

Our Plug & Play Trailer Wiring Harness Kit for Harley Trikes includes:

  • Four-wire relay module
  • Four-pin trailer-plug harness
  • Inline blade-style fuse holder
  • 15-amp blade fuse

Loom Covering The harness provides four-wire outputs for:

  • Running lights
  • Left turn signal and brake light
  • Right turn signal and brake light
  • Ground

The relay harness uses signals from the motorcycle to direct battery power to the appropriate trailer-lighting circuit. This system eliminates overloading the motorcycle’s stock lighting or accessory circuits.

The Legend Motorcycle Trailer Provides 22 Cubic Feet of Cargo Storage

For maximum storage on long trips, our pull-behind cargo trailer option adds 22 cubic feet of weather-tight capacity to complete your Harley trike setup. Built with a durable, hand-laid fiberglass body, it features:

The trailer has a hand-laid fiberglass body and  the following features:

  • Powder-coated black tongue and chassis
  • Harley-style lights
  • 1⅞-inch coupler
  • Four-pin flat electrical connector
  • Foldable jack stand
  • 600 lb independent torsion axles
  • Five-star aluminum wheels
  • Spare-tire and wheel cubby
  • Paperwork ready for registration in all 50 states
  • Three-year warranty

Current specifications include:

  • Empty weight: 170 lbs
  • Load capacity: 350 lbs
  • Hitch height: 13 inches
  • Wheelbase: 38 inches
  • Overall dimensions: 91 inches long × 45 inches wide × 34 inches high
  • Interior box dimensions: 51 inches long × 32 inches wide × 18 inches high
  • Wheels: 12”

The Legend’s 1⅞-inch coupler corresponds with the 1⅞-inch ball included with our Harley Trike Trailer Hitch. Its four-pin flat connector also corresponds with the four-wire output format provided by our Plug & Play Wiring Harness.

Our Selection Process Starts With Exact Fitment Details

When we help a customer review a pull-behind setup, we start with the motorcycle’s exact model and year. We do not recommend choosing a hitch or harness based only on the general description “Harley trike.”

The Tri Glide, Freewheeler, Road Glide 3, CVO models, and newer applications can use different connections or have different fitment limitations.

Before ordering, confirm:

  • Exact Harley model and model year
  • Hitch fitment for that model and year
  • Correct wiring-harness option
  • Any applicable CVO limitation
  • Hitch-ball and trailer-coupler size
  • Wiring-harness and trailer-connector format
  • Hitch and trailer hitch heights
  • Published hitch and trailer ratings
  • Harley-Davidson’s guidance for the motorcycle

The three products should be evaluated as one complete setup rather than as unrelated parts.

A Pre-Connection Check Helps Identify Setup Problems

Before connecting or using the trailer, inspect the complete setup and follow the instructions provided with each product.

Confirm that:

  • The hitch hardware is secure
  • The removable ball mount is properly installed
  • The trailer coupler matches the hitch ball
  • The coupler is properly connected
  • The safety chains are attached
  • The electrical connector is fully seated
  • The running lights operate
  • The brake lights operate
  • Both turn signals operate
  • Cargo remains within the trailer’s published load capacity
  • The trailer tires and wheels are in good condition

A hitch’s maximum rating should not be treated as the motorcycle’s approved towing capacity. The motorcycle manufacturer’s instructions and the limits of every component must be considered.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pulling a Trailer Behind a Harley Trike
