What is a Motorcycle Trailer and How Do I Use It?

A motorcycle trailer is a type of trailer specifically designed to either transport a motorcycle or be towed behind one. There are two main types:

Motorcycle Hauling Trailers – These are designed to transport motorcycles using a separate vehicle (such as a Truck or RV) and will be covered on this page.

Pull-Behind Motorcycle Trailers – These are small trailers that attach to the back of a motorcycle, allowing riders to carry extra gear, luggage, or even camping supplies. (Covered on the Pull-Behind FAQ page.)

What are the key features of a USA Trailer Store motorcycle trailer?

Do trailers come with an MSO or title?

The MSO will be mailed separately when the trailer ships. This is for consumer protection and cannot be done other ways. 

Which is right for me, trailer or hauler?

First, you'll need to consider weight of the bike being pulled and distance traversed. Light duty hauling around the neighborhood or through town is what our Slick Wheelie does best. This option is not intended for traveling long distances such as road trips. When traveling greater distances at higher speeds, you'll need to consider one of our Motorcycle Trailers. These trailers are made to perform under strenuous circumstances encountered when traveling highways.  

Towing and Safety

How do I properly tow a motorcycle trailer?

Load the Trailer Properly

• Distribute the weight to have 10-15% tongue weight.
• Secure your cargo using tie-downs or straps to prevent shifting.
• Do not overload—stay within the weight limit.

Check the Trailer & Motorcycle Setup

• Inspect tires for proper pressure and tread wear.
• Test the trailer lights and reflectors for visibility.
• Ensure the hitch and coupler are locked and safety chains are properly attached.

Adjust Your Riding Style

• Acceleration & Braking: Allow for extra time to speed up and slow down.
• Turning & Cornering: Take wider turns to avoid cutting corners too sharply.
• Speed & Stability: Stay within recommended speed limits to prevent swaying.
• Lane Positioning: Ride in the center of your lane for better balance.

What type of vehicle is needed to tow a motorcycle trailer?

A car, truck, or SUV. Ensure the vehicle has a certified class 2 class 3 hitch.

What is the coupler size on a trailer?

2 inch tow balls are standard on all USA Trailer Store models designed for transporting motorcycles.

How will I receive my purchase?

For our trailers, we use LTL carriers, such as XPO Logistics, R+L® Carriers, etc. The purchaser must be personally present to take delivery, inspect, and sign for the shipment.

When will my order ship?

Most orders can be processed through or facility in less than 7 business days from purchase. However, this is dependent on workload. To get a more precise estimate of lead time, please call our sales department at (864) 501-4559

MANDATORY PRE-SHIPMENT FORMS AND AGREEMENT

If you purchase an item that ships via freight carrier, you will receive a “Mandatory Delivery Form” or a “Mandatory Terminal Pickup Form.” Both forms include the “Purchase and Shipment Delivery Agreement.” You must complete, sign, and submit the applicable document(s) before we ship your purchase.

You may also choose not to sign this agreement and instead cancel your order without penalty.
