“Duty” means different things to different people. Some people think of it as a responsibility. To others, it is a task or action that someone is required to perform.  Perhaps to you, it is an obligation. No matter how you define it, most of us are motivated by duty or called to it on a daily basis – faith, country, family, or friends.  At The USA Trailer Store, our duty is a responsibility to build exceptional work and recreational trailers to fit your life. Double Duty Utility Camper is the fulfillment of that obligation.

Double Duty Utility Camping Trailer is a versatile trailer that performs dual functions: utility AND camper trailer. To meet its responsibilities as a utility trailer, we constructed the frame from high-quality steel and its platforms from hard-wearing steel mesh. Then, we suspended it on triple leaf springs for smooth towing.  Additionally, the design of the Double Duty Utility Camper incorporates two detachable ramps that make loading mowers, ATVs, and motorcycles a hassle-free process.

As a camper trailer, providing shelter is its most important obligation. The steel mesh platforms provide sturdy support for the ample sleeping area. The ramps become steps into the tent, and the 7-ft by 5-ft trailer bed becomes a firm, dry foundation upon which the tent can be pitched. Within minutes, the weather-resistant denier tent becomes a 7-ft high *, 81-sq ft home-away-from-home that sleeps six**with front and rear doorways plus eight large windows!

  • The Perfect Jeep Companion 5

Posted by Jeff Kinsey on Jun 21st 2020

Was looking for a light weight, dual use tent trailer after buying our Jeep and this Friday t the bill perfectly. Trailer is easily reconfigured for utility use, and tent goes up easily with two or even one person. Tent is sturdy and weatherproof and easily stowed. Trailer carries all our camping storage boxes, generator, wood, etc. Priced well and worthwhile.

we have had hours for one and a half years now. We Believe it is a real awesome tent trailer we have spent five weekends in it with no problems. We waterproof tit and seam sealed it as recommended by manufacturer. I built a small bunk edition for a full size mattress to fit on one of the bunks still leaving ample room inside for everything else that we take with us. I enclose the sides and ends on the trailer itself to make it more suitable for hauling dirt and stuff in the trailer have hauled my four wheeler and other things lumber. It is a eye catcher at the campgrounds and people do ask about it. A great combination of trailer and sleeping quarters

  • Could not be more satisfied 5

My wife and I could not be more satisfied with the Double Duty. Took it on a trip 7 days after pickup. Towed 500 miles, camped at Sun n Fun airshow for a week, towed 500 miles home. Highly recommend if you only camp a few weeks a year and need a utility trailer the rest of the year.

  • Quite a mix of tent/trailer/old/new. Something really totally different 5

Back in the 1960s, my dad bought a Ted Williams two-wing family tent from Sears. Then, using his aircraft engineer talents, he built a box trailer on an old axle, built two "wings" out of lauan doors with each side having steel metal antenna poles to support the wings. He cut the floor open in the center and voila! We had one of the first "tent/trailers" that slept an entire family and we camped around all of New England. Little did I know that over 50 years later I'd end up purchasing one that is very reminiscent of those days so many decades ago but that’s just what I now have. My wife and I have camped on the ground in tents for over 35 years. She said she’s not ready to give that up yet but I certainly am. I’m tired of rolling over and getting on all fours trying to stand up without falling over or stepping on her. Yet, I don’t want to be trapped having to camp in larger, less remote sites. This rig offers a very nice compromise. I did follow directions to seam-seal everything and it makes a difference. In addition to also adding the 5/4” flooring planks, however, I also “sealed” all four sides of the trailer by cutting and screwing in ½” Azek panels. I did that because I put all my camping gear into this trailer along with the tent and leave it year-round sealed with a custom cover I had made. Then, rather than leaving the sides white, I sprayed them with a camo scheme and that worked perfectly. I can still use the trailer for basic purposes but I’d have to remove all my gear into the garage, first. No problem, however. As for the performance of the tent, itself, I’m pretty pleased with it. We just had a shakedown trip with it in Maine and we were camped on a bluff fully exposed to the ocean. We had absolutely terrible winds: 20 knots continuous with max gusts up to 40+ knots. Being in the tent in that weather was like camping in a clothes dryer. But, to my satisfaction, the tent held beautifully. We could not even erect our screenhouse so the tent was our only refuge. There’s enough room for two small chairs and a table for cards and a lamp. The sleeping areas are generous for a single person. I’d like to look into the “extension” that was available at one time for extending one side to two people instead of one. Seems simple enough. I was also pleased to “discover” little things like a power-plug inlet on both bottom walls in addition to additional ventilation panels. Very ingenious, really. The thick, durable bathtub bottom looks durable enough for a long life, too. The only thing we’re a bit concerned about are the thin aluminum poles that bend for things like the visors and between the front and real vertical poles. However, they have performed as expected so far and I’ve erected this rig at least four times without an issue. One modification I did make, however, was with the anchoring straps. I despise the little clips that we’re supposed to affix to the screen on the wings and other parts of the tent. They were inexpensive and very difficult to remove. So, I simply removed them and substituted heavier duty “S” hooks to the bare straps. There is really no adjustment needed with these hook as they can be pulled tight and hooked into the trailer body to hold down the tent perfectly well. We pride ourselves on being knowledgeable camper who have experienced just about every camping situation you can imagine. We select our gear, then, with utmost diligence and care because that usually cost a few bucks and we have to rely on it to remain safe and comfortable. This rig really fills that very selective bill for us and we’re looking forward to many years of service in the future. Oh, btw, the trailer is extremely well built, too! I didn’t mean to ignore that fact, either. Pulling it was a dream behind our Town & Country minivan. We still got 19 mpg even with the trailer running about 1100 pounds.

  • Great camping setup and nice utility trailer all in one! 4

I bought this in June 2018, we have used it 3 times for camping and once for hauling furniture so far and it's pretty cool. It will store easily in a single size garage, and travels well. I am towing with a kia sportage and it barely feels like I'm pulling anything. You can fairly easily move it by hand by lifting it up at the hitching area but I did change out the stationary jack stand for one with a wheel so that it's even easier to move by hand. Although I will say if you're not on flat space you will need to watch front to back tipping, I am going to add a bottle jack to my camping collection to help stabilize front to back when not on level ground. Also I can't find any specs on how much weight the beds can hold when camping but so far it hasn't been a problem. This is a great alternative to a regular tent and not as costly or as much work as a pop up (plus it fits in a garage or can be pushed behind garage etc.)

  • I would recommend to anyone 4
